A very, very minimum (refurbishment) and/or extension to a 2 storey linkhouse.

2 Storey LinkHouse
The objective is to extend, not renovate, so, I proceed with minimum budget.
Typical design with 2 feet short roof overhang, and empty blank walls.
The renovation approach started by creating 6 foot or more extended roof overhang all around, providing shade, blocking sun from hitting the wall and glass windows.
Instead of raising only 2 feet above ground, a platform of 6 feet high, allowing for 2 storey 'wakaf' space.
Typical kitchen setting always facing windows and wall, and always subject to greasy dirt. After my kitchen was burnt twice (by maid), and island kitchen is a logical solution to me.
The glass framed door, and glass panels below are actually secondhand material, recycled from a renovated house.
The rest of the living room is not altered, only highlighted by way of painted beams and tiled columns.
Extended roof, continued sloping from original roof eave also become new roof for master bedroom, where most walls are at average of 6 foot high only.
Natural lighting is achieved from the gap between ceiling and the wall plates (enclosed with transparent sheet of course).
The gas tank is 10 feet away, at the last wall, ventilated. The gas pipe is embedded under the tiled floor, giving independent kitchen island a correct term.
Above The Porch
The porch is covered by r.c. flatroof, which I covered again with extended roof. Using recycle glass frame, I created my son's bedroom there.
The bed is actually a bench on a beam, allowing for clear space on the floor.
